Master Power Album MP3 Verison

I wasn’t hip to clifford adams before I put on The Master Power (Naxos). Working in horn sections as disparate as Kool & The Gang and the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Big Band, the trombonist has spent much of his career in semi-obscurity. He has gigged ceaselessly but never made a disc as a leader until now. A growling bear of an album, The Master Power was worth waiting for. Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond, and Lewis Nash are intent on turning Adams’ debut into an animated affair. The splash of the opening “Darshan’s Love” proves the leader’s no shy boy on his horn. And when percussionist Neil Clark joins in on “I Can’t Get Started,” the team belies the title’s frustrations with jaunty Caribbean swagger that’s pure ignition. Here’s hoping Adams gets some notice for this bustling, hard-bop outing.
